Patient History
A 67-year-old gentleman presented with:
40-year history of pain in the ball of his left foot
Burning pain and tingling sensation
Swelling in the affected area
Pain with every step
Sensitivity to even bed sheet contact
Restricted mobility affecting quality of life
Work capacity concerns
Previous failed treatments including two cortisone injections
Clinical Assessment
Area of pain: left forefoot between 3rd and 4th metatarsals (3rd interspace)
Common site for nerve entrapment
Ultrasound investigation confirmed moderately large neuroma/bursal complex
Diagnosis
Left 3rd interspace neurofibrosis (Morton's Neuroma)
Treatment
After reviewing conservative and surgical options, surgery was chosen due to:
Long history of pain
Failed conservative treatments
The surgical procedure involved:
Day procedure
Approximately one hour duration
Removal of neuroma from interspace
Post-operative shoe worn for about 4 weeks
Regular follow-up visits for redressing and care instructions
